My Red Valentine

Some women prefer chocolates, some prefer flowers…but Cristina (of http://cristinastaicufashion.blogspot.co.uk/prefers to create a special dress for a romantic Valentine’s dinner. Of course, she wouldn't mind the flowers and the chocolates :)
This dress is made of red silk taffeta with a soft tulle insert at the bodice. The petals are made of the same taffeta, burned around the edges, and hand-stitched on the bodice.  I really like the effect on the neckline area, it looks as the petals are applied on the skin. She also applied a red velvet waistband. It took her about 70 hours to complete the dress, as it involved a lot of handwork.

Sweet as Sugar

Happy New Year! I know it's February already but this is my first post of 2013! I decided to feature my little one wearing one of her customary headscarves, we're not really big on hats.

AfriChic Living

Remember when Carrie quips she's been cheating on fashion with furniture in SATC 2 well for the last few months that has been my reality. I've ditched my fashion mags for interior design ones. Here's an upholstery project I recently completed.

Here's how the sofa originally looked, tired and faded, I bought it from a local charity shop.

I tried to reupholstered the chair with fabric that complimented my rug and had an Africhic vibe, so I decided to use quintessential African print fabric - ankara.

Thank You Christ Jesus!

2012 has been one busy year, I found out I was pregnant, I got a new job, I renewed my wedding vows, moved home, finished Bible College (and no I'm not training to be a Pastor) and I gave birth to my precious baby girl! I'm so grateful to God for all the wonderful gifts He has blessed me with, I am so humbled by His unfailing grace and mercy. Here are a few photos of my little one.

Wedding Belle: The Finished Dress

The dress was made for a close relative and unfortunately neither me or Ayo were able to attend the wedding in Nigeria. As we're based in different countries we weren't able to do a fitting  for the bride or a consultation, we communicated most of our ideas and the necessary measurements by email or bbm.

The blushing bride teamed the dress with an opaque chemise she got made locally. However she decided not to have her dress altered locally because she was worried the seamstress might ruin it.

Considering that we're self taught and that the bride didn't have a fitting the result was lovely. I have to give my sister special props for all her hard work, it was all her.

Here are photos of the beautiful bride in her dress:

Purple Print

This dress was inspired by the one in our sheer luxe post. An underwired bra formed the foundation of the bodice, the neck detail and straps provided extra support.
